Review: Gambling Men by Amy Lane

Synopsis:

Quent Jackson has followed Jason Spade’s every move in business and in poker since their first day as college freshmen. Eight years later, when Jace finally decides Quint is the one man he can’t live without, he sees no reason for that to change.

But as much as Jace believes that poker is life, no one gave Quent the same playbook. After their first passionate night, the real game of love and trust begins, and Jace has been playing alone too long to make teaching the rules easy. Jace only speaks two languages: one of them is sex, and the other one is poker. Between the two, he needs to find a way to convince himself to take a chance on love—and Quent to take a chance on him. It’s a lucky thing they’re good at reading the odds, because they’re playing for keeps, and this is one high-stakes relationship that’s definitely worth the gamble.

It’s the first ARC that I received on Netgalley and I am really happy that my request to read this one is approved by Dreamspinner Press who is provided this book. Thank you!

Amy Lane is one of my favorite writer. I adore her writing because it’s always touchy story yet heartwarming. She knows how to make me happy by giving me a mixed of sweet, funny, and HOT scene all over the book.

Before I start reading it, I never expected to get this kind of beautiful story behind of poker game. I thought Amy will only give me one dirty story about having sex on poker table. No, she doesn’t do that. She gave me more than that. Yes, there is a making-love scene on poker table but she also give me a bunch of romantic and contemplative situation around the two main actors here, Jason “Jace” Spade and Quentin “Quent” Jackson.

Jace and Quent are workmate who is accidentally in love. Jace is Quent’s boss. Quent is already had a feeling for Jace for quite long but Jace seems not having the equal feeling. At least, according to Quent. Moreover, Quent think Jace is straight because he dates girls! But, they have something in common. They love playing poker game with their close friends. And, one day, Quent is shocked when Jace kiss him because he never had any clue about Jace’s feeling for him.

“So why play this game? Why now? After so many years?” —Quent
“You never tipped your hand, I didn’t even know it was in the cards.” —Jace

And, after many-many times doing poker game together, Jace ask Quent as his lover and move in to his apartment. And, their life never be the same again after that decision, especially for Quent. He gave everything he had for Jace. So, if the relationship is fail then he will lose everything. He gambles for his life.

For Jace who has been taught poker by his Uncle Mike since he was five, poker is life. Jace got life lesson from it so he is really into that game. And, he never let anyone win, even his lover, Quent. He doesn’t wanna lose to everyone. But, Quent see that strict lesson of his life make Jace so serious. He wanna loosen up him a little. He has to enjoy his life.

“Did it scare you?” Quent asked quietly into the silence. “To think maybe I’m bigger than poker?”

I love this book so much. A lot of poker stuffs give me a new experience. I don’t know much about poker before. I just knew that poker is one of the card game. But, I don’t know that there will be a lot of life lesson behind it.

You really think teaching the kid poker is a good idea?” —– Jefferson
I think it makes him feel in control of the world,” ——- Mike

Other than that, Amy also give me a lot of HOT scenes here. Though, at some point, I want to see Jace bottoming for Quent as a proof that he is finally willing to accept him without ‘lose’ feeling, but I am happy enough that this book is providing me a lot of thing. Well written and entertaining. Love it, Amy. 5 star!

“No one can promise to live forever. If you’re going to let yourself need me, you’re going to have to take a really big gamble.” —- Quent
